All home or domestic lawns
should be renovated once
within each growing season.
This
process should be undertaken
during the spring months
and consist of
(1) aerate the lawn to
a depth of 50-75 mm to
relieve compaction and
(2) de-thatching to remove
excessive or old leaves
that have developed over
the past twelve months.
After
the above has been completed,
all excessive material
should be removed from
site and the lawn should
be top dressed. Use coarse
washed river sand and
apply evenly across the
lawn, allow drying time
and then rake into the
renovated surface. After
this process the sand
should be incorporated
into the root system,
ensuring that a third
of the leaf is exposed
to the sunlight.
At
this stage of the renovation
a complete turf fertiliser
similar to that used at
planting should also be
applied and watered in
thoroughly.
